In order to implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on "deepening the reform of the power system and building a new power system with new energy as the main body", on April 17th, the College of Electrical and Power Engineering held an academic report seminar with the special topic on “new power system” in the lecture hall on the second floor of the Science Building. With the invitation of the CEPE, Professorate Senior Engineer Zhang Dongxia, a distinguished expert of Taiyuan University of Technology and the former senior expert of China Electric Power Research Institute, gave an academic report entitled "Big Data and Artificial Intelligence and Their Application in Power Systems". Teachers and students in related research areas of the college listened to the report. This report was hosted by Shanxi Key Laboratory of Power System Operation and Control, and chaired by Professor Qin Wenping.
In the report, Professor Zhang Dongxia introduced the status that the complexity and uncertainty of the current power system are increasing and the traditional model-driven research methods are facing challenges, and proposed new ideas and new methods of data-driven big data and artificial intelligence technology. Based on the current research status, Professor Zhang explained the philosophy, mathematical basis, basic concepts, technical systems, research methods of big data, as well as the concept, development process and technical system of artificial intelligence in a concise way. Finally, Professor Zhang Dongxia demonstrated the current exploratory applications of big data and artificial intelligence in power systems and the main difficulties faced in the application process. After the report, Professor Zhang Dongxia had an in-depth discussion with teachers and students. Professor Qin Wenping said that this report has systematically sorted out the knowledge and provided advanced research ideas for our students in related fields. She hoped that students could learn from it and promote the development of relevant research in our college.
Zhang Dongxia is currently a senior expert in China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI). She got her Bachelor degree and Master degree from Taiyuan University of Technology in 1985 and 1992 respectively, PhD. degree from Tsinghua University in 1999. Since 1999, she has been working in CEPRI. Her research interests include bulk power system analysis; the application of big data, AI and DT in power system. She has more than 60 referred publications in journals and conferences. She is also an enterprise doctoral supervisor of Taiyuan University of Technology, the associate Editor-in-Chief of Proceedings of The Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, vice chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee of The Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, the vice chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee of China Electrotechnical Society.
